Are YOU excited, motivated with self-initiative; like working with children to teach them new things? Are you studying in the discipline of COMPUTER Science, Electronics, or Electrical Engineering, or are you in a specialty field of Robotics or 3D Design?
Are you confident in leading groups of 5-15 years olds through hands-on, project-based learning in your areas of expertise? You should have expertise and passion for your subject matter. Additionally, you should have a genuine desire to work with teens and to share your knowledge in a fun and engaging way. You need to be flexible, patient, high energy and able to have fun with the students. Do you have the passion to help to prepare the future generations for success in STEM fields? Do you possess two or more of the following skills in programming, 3D design, and robotics:

Do you understand and possess fundamental development skills in C++, C#

Do you understand and possess fundamental development skills in Java, Python or Scratch?

Do you know your way around the Arduino IDE?

Have you completed classes covering electricity, current, resistance, and ohms law; can you articulate clearly these concepts and laws?

Have you completed a class in AutoDesk, Unity 3D, 3D Design and, or Computer Aided Design?
If you answered yes to two or more of the above, you are interested in teaching children how to program, work with robotics, and 3D design and printing; using curriculums for Vex Robotics, Lego Mindstorm EV3, RobotC, LittleBits, Arduino, Raspberry Pi and .Net Gadgeteer then we have an opportunity for YOU! Synapse Science and Technology Learning Center aims to be the premier, fun, exciting and most innovative afterschool program for children ages 5 – 15; YOU can help us achieve our objective. We will provide a fun, clean, safe work space, with the tools, components, robotic kits and sensors you need to help engage the future generations in Programming, Robotics, 3D Design\Printing and Internet of Things (IoT).
We will pay a competitive hourly rate, with the option to receive Tuition Assistance if you maintain a 3.0 or higher GPA in all your classes. The position(s) are part time for 20 – 25 hours a week, with hours that are ideal for a university student; typically 2:30 – 7:00 Monday through Friday.
+ SUMMER CAMP COORDINATOR(s) - FT (40 HOURS) M-F; 10 WEEKS
+ INSTRUCTOR(s) - PT (20+ HOURS) M-F
+ TECH ASSISTANT(s) - PT (20+ HOURS) M-F
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & CERTIFICATIONS
-
At least 18 years in age and have completed your freshman or higher year in a related discipline
-
Excellent communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with colleagues, students and parents
-
Experience working with and instructing students ranging from age 5-15

Enjoys working with children and teens

Patience, flexibility, energy, and a sense of humor

Positive Attitude

Outgoing personality

Obtain CPR and First AID certifications, through American Red Cross or other designated agency

Attend all staff training, and readiness training classes offered by Synapse STLC

Complete either Florida DCF or Livescan Background Screening; required to work with children

Complete 45 state mandated hours as required by Florida DCF
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
-
Assist in a designated course throughout the day and week. Work with students in small groups, as well as one-on-one, to help them learn concepts and complete projects
-
Work closely with the program directors, and other TAs to foster a fun, rewarding, and positive learning environment
-
Complete tasks provided by the Program Director and Assistant Director efficiently and effectively
-
Assist with set-up before class|camp starts and classroom turnover at the end of each night|week as necessary
-
Assist with break-down after camp ends (summer program)
